The Halfmoon Bay Childcare Centre is planning to re-open September 2020, with some changes to our programming. Dropping off and signing-in outside will be a challenge for everyone, but if we try to make it fun and positive for the children it will be easier.

In accordance with BCCDC, WCB, and Vancouver Coastal Health requirements and recommendations, we have changed some of our programs at the Halfmoon Bay Childcare Centre to be able to provide the safest early learning experience for everyone during this time while we all work through this pandemic together. Increased sanitization, increased outside programming, individualized and smaller group activities, social distancing measures and new sign-in/out processes including health checks are just some of the ways in which we are meeting the new parameters for safety and health.

The Halfmoon Bay Childcare Centre is looking to hire energetic, creative, kind and thoughtful qualified ECEs and ECEAs to join our enthusiastic and friendly team.

We are looking for both full-time and part-time positions. Duties include, but are not limited to, working alongside and with children, planning and leading activities based on the interests that emerge, leading circle-time, as well as outdoor walks and activities on-site and in the attached provincial park.

A current first-aid and criminal record search are required. We offer very competitive wages and a great benefit package after the three-month probation period. Training opportunities for upgrading provided and ECEAs will have the possibility of educational funding after the probation period.

We are prepared for and have implemented new strategies for Covid-19 as per WCB and BCCDC/VCH requirements and recommendations.

Welcome and welcome back to those returning to the Halfmoon Bay Childcare Centre for another wonderful year!

We have reopened Tuesday September 4th 2018 and our hours of operation are 8:00am – 5:45pm. We have moved to a full-day model although you are welcome to come and go within our opening hours. We ask only that if you are going to be arriving later than 10am that you just let us know so that we can plan walks and outdoor activities accordingly.

We are all looking forward to getting back to working with your amazing children!

We will be following suit with the school as the ploughs will not prioritize the area with no school in session and we don’t want a repeat of last year where we and some parents were stuck.

The Centre is Closed today due to snow warnings and school closures

There are snow warnings for tomorrow – Feb 23rd, 2018.

If the staff are unable to get to work due to inclement weather, we will notify via email and follow up with texts. Please check both regularly and before coming to the centre.

Even if your route to the centre is clear, if the teaching staff are snowed in I won’t be able to open the centre. We will do everything we can to get to work in the morning.

If the school buses cannot get down the hill and HMB Elementary School closes (radio 91.7 FM announcements help get this message out) it is a guarantee that we won’t make it and the centre will close.

For those not in the near vicinity of the school, we have found that there is sometimes larger amounts of snow in that immediate HMB area than other areas, so be careful in your approach.

There is the occasional occurrence when we are able to open but then dramatic snowfall forces early closures.

We will do everything we can to stay open.
Please make sure you have a back up plan in place just in case.

Family Day & Valentine’s Day

Just a reminder that the centre will be closed for Family Day (stat holiday) Monday February 12th.

You are not obliged to bring in Valentine’s Day cards as we make them at the centre in various forms. Some families have asked about bringing in Valentine’s and it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn the other children’s names and hear more about your child’s friends. We encourage families that choose to bring them in to bring one for everyone so there aren’t hurt feelings.

We have lots of Valentine’s activities and all things red planned for the whole of next week so not to worry if your child isn’t in on the specific day. The children stay excited about it all week!
